Q – What’s this about Night Therapy?
A – Texas Night Therapy, PLLC was founded by Xawn Alexander to be a virtual practice wherein residents of Texas could receive quality mental health counseling well into the twilight hours. That dream is still alive! However, Xawn is currently serving the state of Texas by leading a Coordinated Specialty Care team for those suffering from severe mental illnesses and can only be available on Sundays during the day.
Q – Why can’t I use my insurance?
A – Two reasons:
1. Insurance Companies make it extraordinarily slow and difficult to get credentialed with them. This is even worse for those with an associate license, despite them being qualified to practice. More info about associate licensure can be found here:
2. Insurance Companies have obtained the right to review and audit therapists’ practice notes to determine eligibility for reimbursement. Essentially this has turned therapists’ session notes into receipts for billing. Not only do we feel this spoils some of the therapeutic value of a session note, but the stringent requirements for reimbursement can cause therapists to focus treatment solely on what the insurance company deems valuable and can lead to issues such as early/inaccurate diagnosis and depersonalized treatment.
Q – Can we meet in person?
A – For the time being the practice is not set up to have the appropriate safety and privacy resources necessary to ensure successful home visits. The advantage of this is that you can be served from the comfort of an environment of your choosing; anywhere in the State of Texas.
Q – Why just Texas?
A – Here in the U.S., different states have different requirements for both initial licensure and ongoing qualifications of mental health practitioners. Ultimately this necessitates a practitioner to apply for and maintain licensure separately for each state they practice in. This can easily become pricey and difficult to maintain even for those interested in serving multiple states. The founder of Texas Night Therapy, PLLC is a Texas native and currently only licensed to practice there.
